After reading an alphabet book during story time, make photocopies of the pages. Children can then examine the pages and choose the object that for them best symbolizes the letter. They can cut out that picture, paste it on a small oaktag card, and write the letter on the front or the back. Let your child play with the alphabet! Put them to work, creating a book that will keep them busy, and help them practice their letters, too. This type of letter is more than a note; it’s words written in such a way that the 3 needs of your child will be met, and they’ll have it in writing. Writing letters strengthens the connection between you and your child. So no matter how young your children are, write them .
